We’re talking about Crustaceans today, because (what else?) it’s National Lobster Day… Yea for lobsters!
I’m far from a lobster connoisseur, at least in terms of consumption. I’ve never tasted the delicacy, not once. Not even on previous National Lobster Days. I’m not a big seafood eater anyway, so while I’ve had the opportunity to eat lobster, I’ve never taken it.
I did read The Secret Life of Lobsters: How Fishermen and Scientists Are Unraveling the Mysteries of Our Favorite Crustacean (by Trevor Corson) a few years ago, and found it a good read. I recommend it pretty highly. Trevor also penned The Story of Sushi: An Unlikely Saga of Raw Fish and Rice which also sounds like an entertaining read for those inclined to eat sushi. But once again, I’m not qualified (as I’ve never consumed it) and, of course, it’s not National Sushi Day today!

I’m not sure if any of my experiences would qualify me to say anything coherent about Lobster Day. I’ve never worked on a lobster boat, and never seen one outside of a restaurant aquarium. But, having read The Secret Life of Lobsters, I’m far more qualified to speak on that topic than I am the alternatives.
Today is also National Daughters Day. I’ve never had a daughter, never wanted a daughter, and have very little to say on the topic. I’m not of the Hebrew faith, so I have nothing to say about Yom Kippur either. I understand it’s the holiest of all days for the Jewish, but I know nothing.
Now Binge Day I can go for, but not necessarily write anything about the holiday. While I’ve binged The Marvelous Miss Maisel, some others, and a bunch of cartoons, I don’t believe you’d care to be regaled by my exploits there, anymore than you’d like to hear about my knowledge on raising daughters.
Even More Days for Today!?!
If I know nothing about any of the previous topics, my knowledge of German Butterbrat Day is absolutely non-existent.
It’s also International Ataxia Awareness Day, which is very important to the families and victims of Ataxia disorders, but probably not to anyone likely to ever read this, as it occurs at a rate of 1 in 50,000. I can offer my best wishes to those who suffer from Ataxia disorders, but I cannot walk a mile in their shoes.
It’s National Wade Day, and it’s National John Day too. Sadly, my name is not Wade or John, it’s Monster.
National Comic Book Day shares it’s day with Ataxia, Binging, Daughters and Lobster Day, the poor bereft holiday. Should I tell Comic Book Day that is also shares the day with still more? Yes, there is also Math Storytelling Day, National One-Hit Wonder Day, and even Roadkill Day. No kidding!
It’s National Food Service Employee Day, and National Cooking Day too. One’s about honoring those who cook and serve the food we eat out, the other’s about cooking for yourself. Fits together like a hand inside a glove, doesn’t it? Now add in National Quesadilla Day and the dinner menu for National Cooking Day is taken care of, but, I guess those topics will have to wait for next year for my attention.

If you’ve been feeling down, today is National Psychotherapy Day. You have my care and compassion if you are suffering from mental illness. There is help, please seek it… Please! It’s National Pharmacists Day too. If talking to someone doesn’t help, maybe some good old pharmaceuticals will do you right! It’s also National YogaFit Day, and exercise may help your mental health too. Maybe, try it too?
I don’t want to leave out National Tune-Up Day (for your house.) And, Research Administrators, today is your day too! (Along with all the rest…)
And finally, it’s World Dream Day. Finally we get a good topic for great writing. I could really dig my teeth into that one, don’cha think? Damn, now that I’ve mentioned all those days, we are out of time for today’s episode!
See ya later kiddos! And please, please, drink and drive responsibly, ok folks? That’s it, we’re all out of time for today, but tune in tomorrow for another pity episode of – What day is today?
